A Princeton survey shows majority approve WPA chief Harrington’s removal of strikers from WPA rolls while Attorney General Murphy orders a Minnesota grand jury probe into the strike. Voters cite charity versus rights of workers, with WPA workers themselves split on the issue.
An AFL union had been picketing a Philadelphia butcher shop for two months seeking a closed shop. Owner Samuel Flashner obtained an anti-picketing injunction yesterday. The shop employs one worker.
Washington reports dwindling WPA strike action as 14 days pass without compromise on wages. F C Harrington, head of the WPA Projects Commission, notes normal operations are returning in most states and quickly in others, with 26 511 still on strike and 32 582 fired for five day absences.
