Amarillo Builds Skyward as City Expands
Amarillo leads Texas in building in June with 2.6 million dollars in permits. Four skyscrapers rise in the business district while 24 hour work crews push a ten story Oliver-Eakle, a twelve story hotel addition, an eight story Amarillo Building addition, and a fourteen story Herring hotel. Apartment houses multiply as residences spread north south east and west, with rapid growth in San Jacinto and surrounding south and western areas boosted by new subdivisions and lumber yards drawing workers from Dallas, Topeka, California, and Florida.
