City Manager Probes Fire Chief’s Conduct Amid Charges

Odessa Man Shot Seven Times in Suspected Love Triangle

Francis Bell, 45, an oil company worker from Odessa, was struck by seven bullets from a 38 caliber pistol on Saturday night and was reported recovering. Police held a 61-year-old man for investigation as officials described a possible love triangle motive.

Link Belt Unloader Demonstrates Speedy Wheat Movement

An underground link belt unloader at Burrus Panhandle Elevators in East Amarillo tested with a wheat car, unloading into a conveyor system and into tall storage bins. The unit, rated for one car every five to six minutes, doubles unloading speed and will serve both Burrus elevators as the system is fine tuned.

Jail Robbery Suspect Is Named In $105 Theft

James C. Arnold, 21, jailed on robbery by assault charges after allegedly robbing the T-Bone Grill of $105. The suspect, living at 1102 North Lincoln, allegedly shoved employee Hettie Burrow, 505 North Lincoln, and fled in a chain of taxi transfers to a North Fillmore cafe and a North East Eighth Avenue nightclub before arrest. He faced transfer to Potter County jail slated for that afternoon.

Unidentified man dies leaping from Empire State Building

A man of unknown race died today after jumping or falling from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, landing on a setback on the 21st floor. He becomes the 14th victim to die from a plunge from the world’s tallest structure.
