158 Carloads Of Wheat In Amarillo Today

Census Years End For 10 More Years
Census operations of the 1940 decennial census are nearly over for 10 years, Amarillo district supervisor W. S. Ruffner said today. All but six census offices in the Amarillo territory, covering the Panhandle, have closed and the rest will close this week. The district office in the federal building will close next week. Agricultural censuses may be taken periodically by the department of agriculture with Rural Free Delivery assistance, but the headcount census is almost finished.

Austin July 11 The state game fish and oyster commission in session considered Gov W Lee O'Daniels charges from a Waco rally July 2. Chairman A E Wood said no reply had been received to an invitation for the governor to attend todays hearing to present objections to the departments conduct. Daniel called the department a millionnaire sportsmans club and cited state autos and 74 state boats. Wood said he would not comment until after the hearing but sought to know where the governor obtained the information used in his campaign speech.

Officer Bell Confined After Motorcycle Crash
Officer Bob Bell of the police traffic squad was injured when his three wheel motorcycle toppled under a car driven by Wesley Barton in the 200 block on North Fillmore Street during a shower. He suffers a severe leg injury and possible wrist fracture and will remain in bed two to three days pending X rays. Transported to his home at 1600 Lipscomb Street, the crash occurred after the car allegedly turned suddenly on slick pavement as both vehicles traveled in the same direction, according to Traffic Captain Sid Harper.

Dickie and Wild Deer Turn Friendly Meeting Violent
Dickie Doyle of Palo Duro Canyon south of Claude befriended a wild deer that entered the farmyard and allowed petting for several minutes. The buck suddenly attacked, knocking him down and injuring him. A. C. Doyle chased the animal away, and the deer fled back to the canyon. The boy’s injuries were not serious.
