Arthur Brisbane’s Globe column surveys postwar mood with notes on US prospects after a cheerful new year. It cites Germany’s victory in boxing, the Oklahoma deputy sheriff shooting of two Mexican students, Mexico’s planned suit, and the pope’s encyclical attacking Mussolini’s regime.
Six members of the Oil States Advisory committee met in executive session at the Herring Hotel amid plans to confer with Dallas representative Robert R. Penn. The group discussed East Texas proration and possible oil price effects, with a lunch hosted by the Amarillo chamber of commerce and Lawrence R. Hagg as toastmaster.
Negotiations have begun in Paris among experts to work out technicals of applying President Hoover’s moratorium plan. Britain withdrew its invitation for a world powers conference. France and the United States greeted the accord with satisfaction as Europe, Washington, and stock markets welcomed the development.
Rowland E. Lewis Jr., 37, was killed at Inspiration Point No. 2 after defying two armed men who demanded to rob him. Miss Lolley Artie, 21, was wounded by fear as the killers fled. she described a spotted car with two assailants and reported Lewis jumped from the car when ordered. Investigators link the case to similar Dallas holdups.
In Houston a jury heard testimony as state attorneys pressed for death for Donald Gavin in the Rice Hotel mezzanine killing of Marie Hart, 29, a mother of two. Prosecutors cited her letters and the accused’s statements about killing his sweetheart who said she was returning to her husband.
Invitations to speak at the Tyler oil mass meeting have been accepted from Dan Moody former governor Tom E Cranfill president of the Independent Petroleum Association Claud C Wild executive vice president of the same group Nathan Adams Dallas banker Captain J F Lucey chairman of the East Texas arbitration committee and director of Hoover's unemployment committee and Judge Charles L Bradfield president of the East Texas Lease Royalty and Producers Association.
Captain J. F. Lucey will submit his resignation as chairman of the committee in Dallas Texas according to an U P dispatch dated July 7. The move comes amid ongoing discussions within the group about leadership and future directions.
Harold A. Moore sues E. Haldemann-Julius in federal court for 500000 with claims that a magazine linked Vice President Charles A. Curtis to financing a Washington hotel. Moore and relatives once owned the Mayflower Hotel. Curtis previously stayed there and commented on his hotel bill.
Preliminary arrangements for the Panhandle of Texas Inc advertising exhibit tour were formed at a meeting in Amarillo with officers and directors. T. E. Johnson chaired the publicity report and H. M. Luna described exhibits and itineraries for 14 fairs. Sam Braswell presided at the session.
President Hoover held a brief cabinet meeting in Washington with a depleted group as four cabinet secretaries were away from the city. Vice President Curtis attended, augmenting the session.
J Louis Keel of Roswell New Mexico testified in Abilene district court that he never loved Margaret Roberts 21 in a breach of promise case. He said Mrs Roberts spread rumors of a marriage with a man reportedly worth about 300000 and that he ended visits after her mother’s sentimental talk.
Howard J. Wisehaupt of Cleveland, a renowned business analyst, will lecture at Amarillo Municipal Auditorium tomorrow and Thursday at 8 15 p m Admission is free The lectures, supported by the Chamber of Commerce and The Globe News, follow his South and Southwest tour and aim to energize sales forces and executives.

SHAMROCK Tex July 7 H F Schlegel 50 year old cattle buyer shot twice by robbers who kidnapped him Sunday night was in improved condition today and expected to recover. The men seized him at the stockyards blindfolded him into his car four miles from Shamrock forced him to disembark robbed him of 41 dollars and shot him near the heart. He crawled to a deserted farmhouse and waited until dawn before being found by a passerby.
C. G. Thomas, 25, a pipe fitter at Taylor Refining Company, died from extensive burns after a gasoline drum near which he sat exploded Sunday night. He died today in Tyler Texas.
Hale County farmer L. B. Hendrick aged 57 died from injuries received ten days earlier when gored by a bull at his Plainview Texas farm. He died today, according to local reports.
Justice Bailey of the District of Columbia Supreme Court postponed action in the Albert B. Fall case until Thursday. The District Attorney said a report on Fall’s physical condition showed he could come from El Paso to begin his term.
A Beville 76 pioneer resident of Clarendon dies after two months illness. He moved to Clarendon in 1885 and helped grow the city. He started the Clarendon News publisher for years and opened the first local insurance agency. Former mayor and postmaster under Cleveland’s last administration. Survived by two sons A M Jr and R H Amarillo and daughter D Laure Beville Texas Tech instructor. Burial in Clarendon Cemetery tomorrow.
Daw son W Crowson an 18 year old farm boy confessed to police he shot Ira Castles a 60 year old merchant after Castles refused to lend five dollars for candy for his sweetheart. He set fire to the store and later surrendered saying there was no use trying to get away.
Henry L. Doherty head of Cities Service Company accuses The Kansas City Star of swaying a state order blocking sale of Cities Service securities. He seeks Postmaster General Walter Brown to ban the newspaper from mail and warns Gov. Woodring of alleged Star influence.
The United States expects quick appointment of an expert committee to work out technical details of Hoover's moratorium. Castle says signatories should appoint members now and that the process may take at least three months. Many contracts extend into the proposed holiday and total problems estimated around 1000, though many are minor.
The Amarillo forecast calls for fair conditions tonight with partial cloudiness on Wednesday. West Texas sees partial cloudiness tonight and Wednesday, while New Mexico reports mostly fair conditions in the south and unsettled north, cooler tonight and Wednesday, with temperatures at 2 PM reaching 77 and 62 in the region.
