Millions of Bushels of Wheat Piled in Panhandle Fields

The Panhandle harvest shifts south as millions of bushels lie on the ground awaiting freight cars. Elevators lack labor to unload and trucks cannot keep up with combines, forcing many piles of fifty to sixty bushels in dirt. Rail shortages choke loading, with 175,000 bushels stacked on the ground and 801,000 bushels across the Plains awaiting shipment. Relief expected when Oklahoma harvest ends. A holiday note: Mr and Mrs G G Ordway spent Independence Day in Woodward Oklahoma.
