Corncobs Find New Use In Chemical Industry
CHICAGO U P The corncob once used for fires and pipes is now valued for synthetic rubber plastics and insulation. G F Spenser of Logan County Indiana repurposed an old mill beside a switch track to grind cobs into cob meal. He shipped 20 cars under a contract for 45 more, saying cob meal makes insulation comparable to brick walls. Cob supply is plentiful though transport from farms to mills remains his main challenge.
