In Los Angeles a deranged ex soldier known as Charles Fromenske is held after chaotic episodes with firecrackers and a lamp post injury linked to shell shock. In Dallas Roberta Semple McPherson denies seeking a husband while joking she travels for material for radio skits.
Margaret Thulin Waley the Utah girl faces trial in Tacoma on Weyerhaeuser kidnapping charges. She plans to oppose confessions allegedly wrung from her by Justice Department agents in Salt Lake City. The case sits in Judge Cushman’s federal courtroom as she pleads, after two prior guilty attempts.
President Roosevelt signs the Wagner labor relations bill in Washington. The act guarantees workers the right to organize and bargain collectively, creates a National Labor Relations Board, and defines unfair practices by employers. The measure, urged by labor and opposed by many employers, aims to replace NRA codes under section 7-A of the Recovery Act.
Washington July 5 President Roosevelt might veto a regulatory utility holding company bill. The Senate death sentence provision could be retained in conference after the House eliminated it. Senator Wheeler said prospects favor conference to keep the provision. A House inquiry into lobbying on the bill is planned with a $150,000 Senate investigation proposal pending.
The transcontinental Great Northern Empire Builder wrecked at 2:20 A M after a washout near Bainville Montana. Twenty four people were injured with at least two in serious condition as eight cars jumped the tracks and the engine stayed upright. The crash followed a cloudburst that washed away rock and halted block signals. The injured were taken to Williston North Dakota for treatment including a 12 year old boy and a brakeman.
Wheat futures in Chicago Minneapolis and Kansas City fell as much as five cents a bushel on bearish views of Canada grain policy. July and August futures at Winnipeg dropped to the pegged government limit of 80 cents a bushel. Markets closed at lows with all quotes as asking prices and no sales.
New York detectives questioned a youth in a police lineup in connection with an Oklahoma bank robbery and murder. He claimed to be Lance Boy's spuringer and said he was wanted in Oklahoma in the Ida Bell National Bank hall murder on April 15, where cashier Samuel O'Dy was killed.

Robert J. Moreau 58 former Texas and Louisiana attorney held in Grand Rapids Michigan on a murder charge has waived extradition and will return voluntarily to Wills Point Texas to stand trial. He is accused of clubbing to death the father and mother of a former wife.
Miss Jennie A McCloskey 87 and her brother 85 lived isolated for 30 years on income from the McCloskey estate. Miss McCloskey died of natural causes two to three weeks ago. John McCloskey, malnourished, was hospitalized after discovery at their Spring Lake home by police and a solicitor.
A national conference of self-styled radicals opens in Chicago with leaders predicting a left wing third party in 1936 and a new social order. Howard Williams of St Paul says capitalism is disintegrating and a new party will replace it. About 200 conferees gather as the movement’s sponsors announce plans.
William Schweitzer and three women, including Mrs Miller, were arraigned in Detroit on first degree murder charges for the slaying of Howard Carter Dickinson. They entered not guilty pleas, were remanded without bail, and a hearing set for next Friday.
Washington July 5 Department of Commerce officials said the United States bought more than it sold in May for the second consecutive month. Agricultural imports rose while exports of the same class fell, pushing total imports above exports by 5.1 million dollars. April's excess was 6.392 million, reversing a prior period when exports exceeded imports.

Detroit prosecutor Duncan McCrea says Merte Ward Goodrich, who confessed to the murder of 11 year old Lillian Gallaher, may be charged with six additional assaults on Michigan children and questioned about several disappearances. McCrea and detectives planned to return Goodrich and his wife to Detroit.

At the 54th annual Texas Bar Association convention in Houston on July 5 a heated session approved 107 to 74 an amendment banning attorneys from discussing litigation with a judge when opposing counsel is absent. A second amendment would bar judges from presiding over cases where a relative up to third degree is a counsel or litigant. Debates centered on whether the measures harmed the judiciary or pushed ethics reform.
At least 201 deaths and thousands of injuries marked the nation’s Independence Day, the largest casualty list since 1932 but still below the average of the previous seven years.
Tyler witnesses say John Conn pleaded guilty to the shooting death of Joe Logan, a Tyler boy, and received a 99 year term in the state penitentiary. Conn was an accomplice of Jimmy Cantrell, who was found guilty by a jury after defense and prosecution reached an agreement. W A McDaniels remains to be tried on related murder charges.
