Fort Worth hosts Independent Petroleum Association changes redistricting to eight sections and election of 11 vice presidents for producers refiners marketers and royalty owners.
Amarillo and vicinity may see showers tonight and Saturday. West Texas stays partly cloudy with possible showers in the Panhandle and far west. New Mexico expects fair conditions in the south with unsettled weather in the north tonight and Saturday. Temperature extremes reach 83 and 68.
Fort Worth aviators Reg L. Robbins and H. S. Jones prepare a non stop refueling flight to Tokyo aiming for a $25 000 prize. A tri motor refueling ship piloted by J J Mattern must reach Fairbanks before the Seattle Tokyo dash. If successful they may fly back to Seattle or proceed to Paris.
In the District Court here defense testimony began in the breach of promise case of Margaret Roberts versus Louis Keel. Matt Blanton testified denying a requested date with Roberts. The defendant’s wife testified about destroying a letter and photo of Roberts.
Attorney M. C. Gonzales of the Mexican Consulate General in San Antonio said the families of Emilio Cortes Rubio and Manuel Garcia Gomez are considering filing damages actions after a recent incident.
Paramount Publix officials informed Amarillo business leaders that a theater at Ninth and Polk Streets will be let within three weeks. Changes include an enlarged stage, a grand pipe organ, and a refrigeration system added at an extra cost of 20000 dollars. Final plans approved, work on refrigeration to be completed by July 15 before awarding the contract.
Bishop Harry T. Moore of the Dallas Diocese urged revising the church canon that makes adultery the sole divorce ground. He argued many marital burdens surpass infidelity and every case should be decided on its own merits.
Frank X. Shields cannot play in the Wimbledon men's singles final after injuring his leg in the semi final. Sidney B. Wood Jr. advances by default to the title.
In Toledo at Inverness Club Walter Hagen shot 35 on the outward nine to move within three of the leaders after 36 holes. Amarillo’s Houdini Bob Clark performs a mail sack escape at Thompson Swimming Pool in City Section Park north of town. He will be handcuffed and padlocked in a regulation mail sack lowered to 10 feet, escaping before 1 minute 20 seconds. Trick diver Harry Ragland and others provide dives and exhibitions. Free show begins at 8 p.m.
Berlin reports that public attention centers on Hoover's reparations holiday talks, eclipsing the world title bout in Cleveland. Max Schmeling versus Young Stribling is covered as a secondary curiosity with German boxing expert Willy Meiss predicting an American win unless Schmeling lands a lucky break.

The first summer heat wave eased in parts but deaths rose nationwide. Illinois led with 86 heat deaths in the last 24 hours, followed by Ohio with 30 and Indiana with 28. Oklahoma City July 3. Governor William H. Murray’s farming judged poor by state agriculture chief Harry B. Cordell who blamed heat and soil neglect. Murray retorted the accusation as Cordell boasted a harsher crop at the mansion plot. Cordell, political foe, urged scientific methods and soil loosening with a double shovel. The governor defended his methods and noted lack of hay tonnage reporting. Potatoes at the mansion await harvest.
Holiday celebrators in Amarillo enjoy jazz, firecrackers, picnics, swimming, and gala sights as Independence Day celebrations begin tonight. City and county offices and many businesses stay open, inviting crowds to start the holiday.
Fourth of July picnic goers should plan for a shower or two. H. T. Collman, local weather observer, issued the bureau forecast after calculations and sky inspection. Partly cloudy skies with occasional showers expected for three days and no significant temperature change.
Indep endence Day closings affect local shops while downtown stores stay open until late. Automobile racing at the Tri-State Fair Grounds kicks off tonight with evening programs at 8 and 2:30 pm in the afternoon. Admission 50 and 25 cents. Highlights include a free-for-all stock car race and a head-on collision race. Also promoted are Two Big Picnics, mammoth picnics, railway excursions across Texas, and scenic Southwest motor trips drawing revelers tomorrow.
Daredevil drivers prepare for a two day speed derby at Tri-State Fair Grounds under flood lights. Fifteen top dirt track pilots compete with Posey Reeves among entrants while broadcasts of the Stribling Schmel ing fight accompany the event.
In Corunana Spain a Capuchin Monastery was burned by a mob of about 3000 while troops protected the city. Rioters attacked firemen and looted nearby homes as clashes followed a morning mass. Three people were seriously injured.
Carlos O NeaI, convicted of robberies at Williams Grocery and Nelson Drug, denied a new trial by Judge Henry Bishop in Potter County criminal district court. He received five years for Nelson Drug heist and eight years for Williams Grocery robbery.
County Clerk Ted Blackburn mailed over 700 notary public commissions this morning. The appointments were made by Gov. Ross Sterling and signed by Jane Y. McCallum, secretary of state.
Charges that the Rock Island refused to provide box cars and divide freight revenue will be aired by the Railroad Commission starting July 14. The Sanford and Northern, a one and one half mile line in Hutchinson County, connects with the Rock Island at Sanford and runs to a Riverside gravel pit. Rock Island officials say the Sanford and Northern was built as a gravel-pit subterfuge to haul gravel. If upheld, 50 gravel pit operators could build lines to their pits and share freight revenue.
