Mrs J Walker was appointed constable to fill the unexpired term after her husband died last Sunday. The county commissioners granted the appointment by unanimous vote from six applicants, with Mrs Hunter winning. She filed her application in writing and will serve until year end. Other applicants included W M Roberts Walter Ottinger Fred Bessey H M Hefner and Henry H Owens.

SHAMOKIN Pa July 2 A miner Enock Kuhlinski 35 was rescued alive after nearly 24 hours buried 65 feet underground by 15 Stevens Coal Co miners. He was pulled from the shaft at dawn and taken to Shamokin State Hospital with only shock reported as injuries.
