In the House of Commons on July 14 Captain Anthony Eden disclosed that Premier Mussolini refused a British proposal to grant Ethiopia a slice of British territory to help settle the Ethiopia Italy dispute. Eden spoke after returning from talks in Rome and Paris to the League of Nations relations portfolio.
Captain Eden told legislators he did his utmost to interest and explained Britain’s proposal to Mussolini. The plan offered a strip of British Somaliland to Ethiopia to provide sea access and facilitate concessions from Ethiopia to Italy, with no demand for concessions in return.
