Owen Cox, county purchasing agent, will be kept in his role this year after the Potter County commissioners rejected a motion to terminate him for economy. The board, led by Commissioner John Halley, unanimously approved retaining Cox at his present salary of 2400 dollars.
Diplomats weigh Stalin's offer to discuss a peace pact with President Truman amid Western concern over Soviet pressure on Norway and the North Atlantic alliance. White House says Truman open to meeting, but no formal invitation has been issued.
The forecast calls for fair conditions this afternoon and tonight in Amarillo and vicinity, with partly cloudy skies Tuesday and rising temperatures. West Texas sees fair, not very cold conditions with lows of 14 to 23 degrees and 23 to 28 in the Rio Grande Valley, followed by a warmer, partly cloudy Tuesday. New Mexico remains fair today and Tuesday with warmer conditions in the south, while the 24 hour high topped at 22 degrees and a low of 9 degrees.
