London reports quote Berlin radio saying some Germans are ready to surrender though few desert. Germany vows to fight on under any conditions. Refugee masses flee west as Russian advance threatens areas, with millions in motion and trains overwhelmed.
American invasion of Luzon began with no bombardment as guerrillas reported Japanese forces dead or fleeing. Filipinos lined beaches in white to greet U S troops while a guerrilla courier confirmed clear beaches and held airfields near San Marcelino.

The building was a one and a half story frame structure that burned in under two hours. Mrs Eva La Coste operator of the house and five other children were saved.
Arguments in the trial of C. O. Myers began before the noon recess in 47th District Court. The jurors were to hear the case this afternoon over charges of robbery by assault. Brewster alleges he was slugged and robbed of about $1,500. Myers pleads not guilty.
