FRANKFURT Germany Jan 30 US Air Force headquarters reported sighting wreckage from a DC-3 transport in the lower French Alps and said a second plane, likely a B 17, had crashed about 20 miles east of the scene. The DC-3 vanished Tuesday en route from France to Italy with three American women and five children aboard. Wreckage was seen 1 1/2 miles northwest of Digne. One search pilot said he saw the second plane crash and explode. Names released: Pilot Lt Earl E Baskin Florence SC Co Pilot Second Lt Terryel H Trexler Dunn NC Crew Chief S/Sgt Donald L Cimmers Dumont Iowa. A fourth crewman’s name to be announced.
Amarillo man R. E. Spooner, 37, suffered second and third degree burns to hands arms and face in a gas explosion at the Franklin Serum Company laboratory on North Monroe. The frame and plaster building was severely damaged with windows broken and doors blown out as Spooner was rushed to Northwest Texas Hospital.
