Washington report shows Reconstruction Finance Corporation loans totaling 1.17 billion dollars through the first six months of operation. Banks and railroads are listed as major borrowers with state and city coverage across the nation.
About 300 unemployed demonstrators clashed in Governor Horner's reception room after being expelled from a legislative session. Police escorted the crowd to the city limits. A separate 5000 woman march by the Progressive Miners' Union was planned to highlight coal field strife. Nine people were detained and then released.
The Texas House adopted a resolution to authorize its Oil Gas and Mining Committee to investigate the Texas Railroad Commission over proration and conservation in the East Texas field. The vote was 76 to 56 and allows subpoenas and sworn testimony with district court powers. debates centered on alleged commission incompetence and moves to possibly replace the commission.

One juror was selected from 100 summoned for the Joe Hawkins murder trial in Crosby County in connection with the death of E. M. Walker on October 28, 1929. Two witnesses who failed to appear were fined $100 each. Hawkins previously faced trials in Crosby Hale Floyd. prior Crosby conviction overturned on appeal. later remanded.
A Childress County jury acquitted Deputy Sheriff M. E. Mote after 30 minutes of deliberation on a murder charge for the August 1 killing of Noble Jordan. Deputy Mote and Constable Tom Galyeon testified that Jordan appeared to reach for a gun as they questioned him about an attempted bank robbery.
J Perry Burrus president of the J Perry Burrus Grain Company and former U S Chamber of Commerce director died in Dallas at St Pauls Sanitarium after stomach disorder treatment. He was 61 and one of the Southwest's best known grain elevator operators with grain interests statewide and a 1927 national chamber board member.
Veteran aviator Lowell Yerex a former Amarillo airport manager now recuperating in New Orleans after being shot in Honduras during a revolution. In his letter he recalls early Central American flying partners and recent combat over rebels, noting a machine gun in the cabin and bombs dropped by rival planes.

Mrs. Frank L. McCall, 50, died from injuries after a neighbor armed with a hammer attacked four people in Redlands Tuesday. Charles Outlaw, 58, charged with murder, hunted by a large posse as officers and armed citizens track him through timber country. The attack left Mrs. N J Looney 85 critical, Frank McCall unable to move, and Sallie McCall 13 recovering.
Berlin reports freezing temperatures sweep Germany freezing the Elbe Weser and Rhine halting many ferry lines. Airplanes deliver provisions to North Frisian Islands while Neustadt in Silesia logs near zero degrees.
Tokyo reports War Minister Sadao Araki tells the House of Peers Japan aims to build a military air arm equal to Soviet Russia. He cites Stalin’s five year plan and warns Moscow may expect or intend aggression against Japan while noting Japan’s air defenses are sufficient.
Civic leaders pressed for chamber of commerce memberships to fund an $11,500 1933 budget. By Thursday noon the count was not final, with the goodwill committee led by Bill Beechler in the lead and several large firms still uncontacted, according to Dr. R. P. Parcells.
Oklahoma City oil field operators urged Gov. W H Murray to close all oil wells until crude prices rise to profitability. The group, led by Wirt Franklin, said they would shut down their wells nationwide if the governor issued a statewide order to halt production.
Boss Jackson, wounded late Tuesday night by bandit bullets in Santa Rosa New Mexico, remains in critical condition at St Anthony Hospital. Therapists say he has a chance to recover while officials consider a revenge plot tied to an old murder case in which Jackson was convicted and pardoned.
The Texas Railroad Commission announced a February 4 hearing in Amarillo to consider Fort Worth and Denver City Railway’s request to discontinue motor car trains 501 and 502 between Childress and Pampa, replaced by mixed trains. The panel will also review Chicago Rock Island and Gulf Railway requests to end trains 31 and 32 between Fort Worth and Dallas and trains 551 and 552 between Amarillo and Hitchland, with mixed train substitutions.
Los Angeles reports actor Richard Dix and his wife Winifred Coe welcomed a daughter weighing seven pounds eight ounces last night. It is the couple's first child.
Rep. W. E. Pope of Corpus Christi proposed bills to dissolve the state board of control and the state game fish and oyster commission. He would appoint a state purchasing agent and a state game commissioner with six deputies, while directing receipts to the state treasury and funding by general appropriation. A favorable vote supported the motor patrol abolition bill.

Luther M. Parks, 40, bottling works manager and former teacher, faces murder charges in his wife’s drowning at Lake Trammel last July. The state alleges he killed her to collect $19,000 in life policies and marry his paramour Mrs Fay Condit. Condit testified about Parks paying rent and gifts, admitting relations were based on commercial consideration.
