United Press reports the Air Force readies a haylift operation to save over a million cattle frozen and stranded on Western ranges. Crews waited for clear weather to drop feed as meat-industry officials warn prices may rise if losses mount.
The Panhandle faces snow and freezing drizzle with winds up to 30 mph. Temperatures dropped from 58 to 8 degrees with a trace of snow at English Field. Icy roads and scattered outages hampered communications from Amarillo to Groom, but roads remained passable by 11. The storm disrupted long distance calls and knocked out some radio links briefly.

He died Sunday afternoon in Northwest Texas Hospital after being reportedly refused admission to Veterans Hospital except in emergencies. Funeral services set for 2 o clock led by Howard Boxwell. Survived by mother Mrs Farley Wilson East Eleventh, father Carl Smith San Diego, sister Mrs Gus Tyler Amarillo and widow Mrs Ann Boutell.
Schools closed and meetings postponed due to the situation. The Sandie Band Parents meeting at Am ia High School is postponed. Community groups and professional organizations also delay tonight’s gatherings.
Two men staying at the Capitol Hotel broke into two cars in the 400 block on Pierce and North East Eighth. They took four $1,000 Series E war bonds to Monterey California owner James H. McGrath and a suitcase of clothing. A second car owned by Ralph C. Hart of Wichita Kansas yielded a $360 computing machine and papers. The pair, held in the county jail, face no charges yet.
