Authorities probed the Swisher County sheriff’s killing as arrests spread across the Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico. A neighbor attacked a farm family with a hammer six miles north of Lufkin. Four family members were beaten. two, including Mrs. Robert McCall and her daughter Sallie, 13, were hospitalized with slight hope for recovery. F. L. McCall and Mrs. N. J. Looney also suffered head injuries and broken fingers.
