Elmer Renken veteran gunner from Alton Illinois describes the Pearl Harbor raid as a ludicrously bad job given Japanese surprise and air power. He and a 12 man crew fought feverishly, downing nine planes, with two crewmen of different backgrounds stepping in to man weapons and a young lieutenant leading in medical aid.
