Capt. Robert K. McLaren of Bundaberg Queensland operated on himself for acute appendicitis in Min-ganao. Without anaesthetic he cut into his abdomen, with a Filipino boy holding a mirror, removed his own appendix, and sewed the incision. The three hour operation occurred under hostile conditions.
