Friona Texas January 17 Palmer County authorities hunt two men who narrowly escaped death when a dynamite mine planted near a wheat granary exploded. Marvin Whaley owner of the granary had set the device to trap wheat thieves. A stolen truck from L F Lillard was used to reach the site.
Potter County Young Democrats outline plans for a district convention to be held in March or April. A January 29 meeting was scheduled to finalize details as Willis Avery notes expected large attendance from all 125 counties in the West Texas district.
Media Pennsylvania reports the new legislature faces a decision on imposing a mosquito tax in Delaware County to replace a poll tax. A federal entomology expert says mosquitoes could be wiped out in four years for about $15 000, as the county's association of bur- uses the issue to seek funding.
