Washington figures show U S wealth at end of 1922 totaling 320.8 billion dollars, up 72.2 percent since 1912. Real estate and improvements taxed lead with 155.9 billion, followed by personal property assets at 39.81 billion.
A Panhandle cold snap sent temperatures from 40 to 21 degrees as clouds yielded to snow flurries and a heavy fall began by midafternoon. Forecasters warn the night will stay cold with subfreezing temps and possible snow. Livestock cautions were issued and wheat farmers welcomed the snow for crop benefits.

C Bascom Slemp announced he will retire early as secretary to the president to begin law practice in Washington. The move follows his return from New York and earlier reports named Rep Everett Sanders as his successor, though Sanders will leave the House March 4.
The Texas Industrial League and the state will not oppose the Southwestern Rate Case decisions handed in Oklahoma City. Traffic manager J. Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Harrison aged 28 who died Tuesday afternoon at her home US West nineteenth street were held at 2 o'clock in the Griggs Undertaking chapel. Burial followed in Llano cemetery. She is survived by her husband Hf. C. Harrison yard master for the Fort Worth and Denver railroad, two children Claude Albert 10 and Marguerite 5, her parents and other relatives.
Community Chest directors and committees from organizations in the chest drive budget will meet in the Board of City Development rooms at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon to discuss the drive and related matters. The gathering is viewed as one of the most important, though no specific action was announced.
The British cabinet proposes to renew the inter allied debt settlement tied to the Bal four note of 1922 and asks only for the excess of payments Britain makes to the United States over what it receives from Germany. San Francisco January 15 Miss Dorothy Ellingson 16 daughter of Mrs Anna Ellingson arrested two miles from the Ellingson home after she confessed to killing her mother saying the motive was quarrel over going out with men She admitted cutting her brother s gun and shooting her mother while explaining she was taken to a lodging house by a male companion at Famous For Food Amarillo Hotel Panhandle s Meeting Place.
The Rt. Rev. William Montgomery Brown, retired Arkansas bishop, addressed the Protestant Episcopal Church board of review in Cleveland, pleading for reversal of his heresy conviction. He affirmed belief in the creeds while arguing God as a symbolical, infinite reality beyond literal fatherhood, awaiting final approval by the House of Bishops in New Orleans.
Gaut Land company plans twenty five residences in Amarillo with work already started. Buildings will rise on North Polk and North Taylor between Ninth and Tenth streets at about 2500 dollars each. J R Gant cites faith in Amarillo and expects rapid growth and demand for four to five room homes.
Dr. G L Yates spoke at Amarillo Rotary Club praising acts of kindness and the Shelton children for funding a bishop’s home. He urged a revival of such charity in Amarillo and Texas. Rev. Edgar Williamson sang with Miss Lily Larsen. Bishop elect FE C Seaman shared joy in returning to Amarillo. J M Oakes introduced as a club member.
Elliott Wadsworth, assistant secretary of the treasury, warned bankers in New York that centralization of power in Washington is the era's main trend. He cited a measure to publicize Internal Revenue data and predicted federal records of private business within a decade. He saw no tax cut this year but forecast a treasury surplus next year enabling possible reductions.
Geneva Jan 15. Warren J Lincoln a lawyer florist faces circuit court on the confessed murders of his wife Lina and her brother Byron J Shoup two years ago. The victims heads were found in a concrete block used as a porch support and later recovered by officers led by Lincoln. A jury recently ruled he is sane.
Topeka Jan 15 Carl J Peterson state bank commissioner and appointee of former Governor Davis resigned today in a letter to Governor Paulen he declined to resign under attorney general Griffiths demand and warned he would oppose ouster attempts. He said he would not acknowledge the demand and invited criminal charges in court.
A proposed dam and reservoir near Amarillo would cost about 90 000 with a 464 square mile catchment area and provide a safety water reserve. The project includes a large park and camping site, a lake stocked for fishing and boating, and would support a municipal recreation area within a short drive of the city. City engineer H K Jones and local officials say the lake would attract industries seeking a visible water supply and rival other Texas city reservoirs.
Pensacola reports Lieut. Sen King departed for Alacran Reef to float the American schooner Ruth, which went ashore Monday. Ten crew members and Dr. A F Lorenz of Madison were arrested by Mexican authorities on filibustering charges.
