Fewer Cattle On Feed Predicted For Spring Meat Supplies
The Agriculture Department reports 16 percent fewer cattle on feed for market than a year ago with lighter weights ahead. Pork supplies remain large, hog marketing up to date, but cattle reductions point to a sharp drop in slaughterings in April through June. Major factors include tighter feed and tighter margins between livestock and feed costs.
