House Appropriations Panel Recommends WPA Cut
The full House appropriations committee urged trimming relief funds by 150 million dollars and urged Roosevelt to seek 725 million instead of 875 million for the Works Progress Administration. Republicans accuse malingerers and call for shorter funding and broader grants in aid to states. The dispute pivots on veteran relief figures and unemployment projections through June 1939.
