Washington, Jan. 10. The Supreme Court denied a rehearing of its five four ruling prohibiting physicians from prescribing more than one pint of liquor every ten days. The decision stands as the final ruling on the liquor prescription limit.
President Coolidge told Congress the Sacasa revolutionists in Nicaragua were supplied with arms and ships fitted in Mexican ports under Mexican officials. He cited gun runners and Mexican naval officers aiding the rebels and noted the U S embargo on arms to Nicaragua was lifted to avoid an unfair gap in recognized government support.
Memphis police say 28 year old Marshall Spigner confessed to shooting Grace Bennett a divorced woman and drug store employee whose body was found on a boarding house porch last Saturday. He claimed he killed her because she did not return his love and had plotted to kill him.
Karl Carroll theatrical producer had his appeal denied by the United States circuit court of appeals. The court affirmed a one year and one day sentence in the Atlanta penitentiary for perjury linked to a grand jury probe of a bath tub party at his theater. Carroll testified that no one used the tub and that the champagne was non intoxicating.
W R Schenck a 25 year old former Prairie Pipe Line workman died last night after being rushed to a local hospital. A coroner's verdict says self administered poisoning. Bruce Langford of Yellow Taxi aided the dying man guiding him to a taxi. Two bottles of poison were found in his pockets. He is identified as son of William Schenck Tradell Texas and awaiting his father’s arrival. Body held at Griggs funeral home.
Los Angeles January 10 1930 District Attorney Axa Keyes won dismissal of criminal conspiracy charges against Aimee Semple McPherson. He maintained the case claims she left with Kenneth G Ormiston not kidnapers while McPherson disputed the accusation and insisted she was not in danger.
Governor Ferguson issued a full pardon to HH A Decherd a 1917 Texas senate voter for impeachment connected offenses. Others pardoned include Lillian Broussard Bud Drake and Ernest Clark with pardons not fully detailed. Decherd had served four months of a 12 year sentence in Dallan County for land tithes fraud.
Six unmasked men entered the Sapulpa State Bank early today and escaped with about $20,000 after holding all employees officials and several customers at gunpoint. The robbery occurred in Sapulpa Oklahoma with the suspects fleeing in an automobile.
A Manila blaze in the Tundo district destroyed DOO homes, mainly nipa and frame structures, with an estimated loss of 2,000,000 pesos. The fire began in a church, and about five thousand people were displaced. no deaths were reported.
Special to The Globe Farwell January 10 Seven jurors have been sworn in for the George J Hassell murder trial. The panel expanded after an initial Friday session and more veniremen were added. Judge Reece Tatum says Hassell faces nine murders linked to the Has sell family killings near Farwell.
Bobby Cruickshank of the Progress Club New York won the Los Angeles Open with a 72 hole total of 282 earning $4,500 a diamond medal and wide acclaim. The victory came at Van Nuys California as part of the second annual $10,000 tournament.
El Paso businessman Jose F. Gandara announced a revolution in Mexico with himself as pro claimed secretary of war for the new regime. Provisional president Rene Capiastrian Garza is set to cross into Mexico as 15 thousand rebels are said to be under arms. Federal troops and rebels clashed near Salazar and Atlapulco as authorities report rising rebel activity in Coahuila and other states.
The weather man forecasts fair and slightly warmer weather tonight and Tuesday with no new northers in sight. Overnight low is 25 degrees, the coldest since December 27, as a mild warm spell returns with yesterday’s temperature swing from 45 to 82 degrees.
The Rev J Frank Norris of Fort Worth faces a murder trial in Austin criminal district court over the July slaying of D B Chippa in the Wiret Maptint church study. The state seeks the death penalty while Norris’s defense aims for absolute acquittal and vindication.
Preliminary hours at district court focus on venire eligibility in the Dr J Frank Norris murder case. Judge J R Hamilton orders public excluded until jury selection begins as hundreds await. Norris, charged in the Fort Worth July killing, did not attend until after convening time.
