Washington January 7 the House Judiciary Committee postponed consideration of the Patman resolution to impeach Secretary Mellon until next week due to delay in formal referral. The delay was agreed by members to allow proper parliamentary processing.
Amarillo teachers and school staff face a voluntary 10 percent salary reduction as the board seeks to save about 30000 for the rest of the year. About 400 employees, including Supt. W. A. McIntosh and principals, are affected. The Teachers Interest Committee supports the plan as taxpayers review salaries and costs.

A rear end collision near Moscow on Saturday killed at least 50 people and injured many more as a freight train struck survivors along a parallel track. A later train rammed into the halted carriages, shredding coaches and scattering debris. Government censorship blocked early details.
Japanese troops captured Shanhaikwan, a key gateway between China proper and Manchuria, halting traffic along the coast. Lieut. E. H. Bobbitt Jr., 24, Army Air Corps pilot, whose disappearance on Christmas Day occurred while en route from Selfridge Field Michigan to Hot Springs Virginia, was found dead in the cockpit of his burned plane atop a Cheat Mountains peak in Elkines.
A powerful storm across Western Europe caused several deaths in Britain and widespread wreckage. Winds battered the British Isles, flooding low areas while Channel craft faced severe buffeting yet reached port. Air services to the continent were largely halted.
Three sisters of Ira McKee travel to Huntsville to plead for a last stay of execution for McKee and request a medical X ray exam of his skull and spine. Governor Sterling declined a stay but said he would confer with the warden by telephone. McKee was convicted in Dawson County for killing W. R. Billingsley at Sparenburg.
Kilgore Texas January 7 A Z Rodgers 60 a well known oil field teaming contractor and his wife were killed instantly when a Missouri Pacific passenger train demolished their automobile at a crossing four miles west of Kilgore Frost on the windshield was blamed for the accident The couple lived at Longview Texas
Olive Davenport, 50, killed five children with a hammer in the Patton area near Cape Girardeau Missouri before killing himself with a shotgun. He wounded his wife and a sixth child, leaving one of eight children unharmed. Neighbors discovered the scene at daybreak after a 12 year old boy fled seeking help. The victims included Oliver Davenport Verda Clara Fay Raymond Naomi and an infant girl. Ergie Davenport and Wooster Davenport were hospitalized or escaped.
R. B. Hood, attorney, declares bid for congressman at large from Weatherford Texas. He vows to reduce government spending lower taxes and cut legislative aid to farming if elected.
Mahatma Gandhi faces a writ of habeas corpus as Indian nationalist lawyers plan to present his case January 11 before a high court to test the legality of his detention under a 1827 regulation. The nationalist movement, though shaken by new restrictive ordinances, has seen no major bloodshed as it presses civil disobedience. Nervousness over Hindu Muslim clashes remains, with past deadly riots cited as a warning.
San Antonio January 7. Joe Carl Adams and Jack L. Adams pleaded guilty to theft of a government mail pouch at Seguin and were sentenced to 18 months each in the penitentiary.
