Mrs. J P Flores long time Amarillo resident died in Fort Worth on Tuesday. Her body lay in state at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Chapel this afternoon. Funeral services set for Tucumcari tomorrow. burial beside her husband who died in Amarillo in 1936. Survivors include three brothers two sisters and two nieces in Amarillo Mrs Sylvia Benton and Mrs Lela Kilgore. She lived at 911 North Polk Street for 30 years and was a member of the First Christian Church. Her husband was a Civil War veteran.
A Mexican Automobile Association report from Laredo notes that despite gasoline and tire rationing, more than 3,000 Americans traveled monthly into Mexico in 1943, with 12,171 cars and 36,513 American tourists entering. Rail and bus trips added thousands more. Also, Amarillo schools appoint new secretary Mrs J B Zapushek after three weeks without one.
The memory of Ama rillo's first traffic fatality of 1944 is being kept in abeyance after a tank truck struck four children leaving Grand Street. Helen Ruth Pope, 11, died. Patsy Jean Pope, 10, and Wanda Verne Wilson, 10, are hospitalized with injuries. The three were hit while crossing near Nueces Street after leaving Horance Mann School. Helen Ruth, born in Amarillo, would have turned 12 next Saturday.
