Freight wreck derails 28 cars near Belen Vaughn NM
Santa Fe crews cleared a path through wreckage of 28 fruit filled freight cars between Belen and Vaughn NM by mid morning allowing limited traffic. A stub passenger from Clovis reached Amarillo around 9 AM while a regular eastbound train was dispatched via the northern route. The accident began when a draw bar detached from the third car behind the double diesel locomotive causing the derailment of the following 28 cars loaded with green fruit.
