Three of more than a dozen city employees to be stricken from the payroll January 15 amid an economy drive. Mayor Ross B. Rogers says eliminations are not due to inefficiency or disloyalty, but force of circumstance behind the layoffs.
More than a dozen names will be stricken from Amarillo's city payroll January 15. City manager C. H. Winterhaler and city forester Temple Robinson are among those to lose municipal connections. The move, approved Tuesday night, trims salaries by $2,170.16 monthly to balance the budget at a $1 tax rate. Mayor Rogers and Commissioner H. Ernest Smith voted yes. Commissioner J. N. Vernon voted no. Winterhaler had been city manager since October 15 and previously city auditor. The city auditor, J. M. Barker, will also take over as city auditor with the engineer staff consolidations.
