Paymaster Capt. Ray D. Harwood and Cpl. John J. Hersch were robbed at Sheppard Field as a gunman boarded their car after payday. The robber fled with the payroll, firing once. a passenger leaped out as pursuit continued toward the north gate. Air Force guards and air search planes combed the area.
American forces breach east central front as Seventh Division nears Amidong 31 miles south of Parallel 28. Units link with Second Division along a vital highway toward Hoengsong, widening control of the Red supply route. Reds show disorganization and retreat under pressure.
Salvadore Sollazzo, labeled the fixer in the college basketball scandal, was indicted by a federal grand jury on income tax evasion charges. In other news, Ambassador Dukes said Russia seized small islands off northeast Japan and the United States will not recognize the action.
Paris February 28 Premier Rene Pleven went to Elysee Palace to night to offer his resignation to President Vincent Auriol after parliament failed to agree on changes to election laws. Pleven had attempted to resign earlier but Auriol refused. The move followed a cabinet meeting after the assembly rejected a single ballot system for the fall general election.
An update from M L Estess of Amarillo reports his son Morris L Estess Jr missing in action since November 29. A British marine letter says he was captured by Chinese Communists near the Chosin Reservoir in North East Korea but is safe and uninjured. He and two men were with U S and British marines cut off from the main body and fought until surrender due to scarce medical supplies and ammunition.
Amarillo officers today were told to watch for a soldier driving a 1950 metal-lic blue Ford with license 1869. He is thought to be heading west from Wichita Falls on Highway 287.
