Demo Chief Sees Oil Industry Quietly Dominating State Politics
Hillsboro February report notes Democratic Chairman Calvert warned during a Hillsboro Lions Club luncheon that the oil industry is in complete control of state politics and government. He said the claim is broad and not entirely evil, citing the industry's vast influence and income. The remarks reference a shift in the Railroad Commission’s role toward oil, gas, and trucking oversight, with focuses on economic and social impact.

Vest and Pants Demand Decline in Local Suit Trade
Amarillo clothiers report a shift away from vests and extra pants in men’s suits. War shortages and changing tastes reduce vest demand, though some still favor vests with hard fabrics. Many buyers prefer matching sets or looser Western styles. A few note price and outdoor work influence, with some predicting a rebound if extra trousers return.
