A goose claimed to trace its ancestry to the Pilgrims was shown at the 99th Boston poultry show by Thomas Leavitt. The exhibitor said the lineage stretches through 326 generations. Also noted: there are about 90,000 to 100,000 soda fountains in the United States, far more than in European countries.
Women of the Harmony Club met in the Musical Arts Conservatory where operatic numbers were performed. Mrs. J M Wise led business, with Mrs Archie Castleberry introducing members, and performances by Mrs Jock Burgess and Mrs Grace Bennett, plus a piano medley and Puccini aria. Refreshments followed. hostesses included Mesdames Yannis Holland Crews. The next meeting is set for March 10 at 2:30 in Federation Club Rooms.
The Progressive Study Club holds a luncheon Thursday starting at 10 30 AM at Mrs J H Cooper’s home 2905 Harrison. Assistants are Mrs John Moyer and Mrs W W Bridges.
Peace-time veterans may receive government hospital benefits only if they have service-connected disabilities. The rule ties eligibility to a medical condition linked to military service.
Grace Marie Coontz and Chester J. Allen married in a home ceremony read by Dr. B C Snodgrass at the bride’s parents. Attendants included maid of honor Jane Hurd and best man Richard G Moore. The couple resides in Santa Fe Heights, Clovis after Allen’s radio studies.
A list of events across Amarillo venues including YWCA suppers at 6:30 and 7:45 PM, Herring Hotel meetings, Khiva Temple activities, and various church circles and clubs. Wednesday activities feature women’s groups at First Presbyterian, Tenth Avenue Methodist, St. Andrew’s special church, West Amarillo Christian Church circles, and junior travel study at Amarillo Country Club.
At WOW Hall a dinner marked the 55th anniversary of the Security Benefit Association and the 37th birthday of the local council. Howard Boxwell gave the invocation and Mrs. F D Lindsay was guest of honor. Sadie Rodgers and others addressed the group as Wayne Johnson’s orchestra provided the music.
Pupils of Miss Marlie Lowe's Horace Mann School home room hosted a skating party at the school. The event celebrated the room with the largest PTA meeting attendance and highest parent membership. Refreshments were served to listed students and parents.
