Texas Rangers arrested eight Donna men charged with conspiracy to murder six prominent Donna residents in retaliation for a local election defeat. The men were released on $1,500 bail each. examining trial set for Thursday at Rio Grande City.
Chinese artillery bombardment targets Japanese lines in Hongkow and Kiangwan areas as Shanghai foreigners fear fighting inside the settlement. Reports say Chinese advance continues along the front from Chapel to Woosung while Japanese defend positions with machine guns and rifles.
Chinese forces repelled Japanese assaults at Kiangwan with heavy artillery fire from the Chapel front. Tokyo said no new expeditionary force would be sent to Shanghai and the fight could last a year, with minor shelling near American troops and Loyang preparing for extended combat.
Will Rogers, star of stage and screen, stopped at Amarillo's English Field airport on a brief leg of his air journey to Hollywood.
