Dr. R P Parcells said many Negroes believe they should finish the semester at Wiley while awaiting resumption of plans for a Negro high and elementary school building project in North Heights.
James Leroy Telfer, a Wichita, Kansas native, served two years as AWOL while at Treasure Island. He changed his name to James Leroy Johnson, lived in old barracks, earned money by umpiring baseball games, and slept in abandoned quarters. Security officers tracked him. he was confined to the brig on the island after his evasions and loose talk about liberty. He played AVES softball with sailors prior to capture.
City officials and the Geological Survey agree to cooperate on long range Canadian River dam planning near Amarillo. A water sampling station will be set up near the river bridge on the Dumas Highway about 18 miles north of Amarillo to analyze daily river samples for a year at a cost of about 400 dollars. The effort aims to assess year-round flow for potential municipal reservoir use and to aid groundwater surveys in the Panhandle with observation wells.
A fast moving cold front swept into the Panhandle from South Dakota during mid morning, with strong northerly winds and dust.
