In Harrisburg on February 18 the body of Verna Klink, 21, a candy store manager, was recovered from the Susquehanna River three miles downstream after 24 days of river dragging. Starry B. Bowman, a perfume salesman, is likely to be charged with her murder. He has been jailed since January 24 on admissions that money found on him belonged to the missing woman. charges include robbery conspiracy to rob and larceny related to funds taken from Miss Klink and spent on Miss Miller. The body was found wedged against a rock 35 feet from the site of her disappearance by Michael Krzyzosiak.
In Austin on February 14, Judge Augustus McCloskey faces a problem as 27 witnesses summoned for his election fraud trial cannot be housed due to the Texas legislative session. The defense and state struggle to find lodging as access to hotels is limited.
