Egyptian Held In Ride Slaying Near Liberty
Beaumont report says an Egyptian man was detained today and a second suspect sought by New Orleans police in the so called ride slaying of a man believed to be Tony the Greek, a New Orleans rum runner. The victim's real name is not yet known. The Egyptian was held at Lake Charles after he stopped at a Sulphur garage to fetch a car left there the day before the killing.

State Admits Slain Youth Sought Ransom
In Pawnee Oklahoma on February 15 the state admitted that John F. Gorrell Jr wrote an extortion note to H. F. Wilcox threatening the death of a child unless $20,000 was paid. The admission came in the murder trial of Phil Kennamer for Gorrells slaying. Judge Franklin E Kennamer testified the handwriting was not his sons. The defense contends Kennamer killed Gorrell after reading the note made by the defendant to whom Virginia Wilcox displayed unrequited affection.
