The Gainesville Community Circus arrives in Amarillo June 2 and 3 under the South Amarillo Lions Club. A three ring show by Gainesville citizens features acrobats aerialists trained animals and 20 plus clowns with members who are local professionals. Proceeds support Lions Club welfare fund and Crippled Children's Council Cerebral Palsy Clinic and polio fund.
Childress residents will vote on April 4 to decide if the police chief should be appointed by the city council or elected by residents. The charter was amended two years ago to make the post elective after decades of appointment. R. W. Williams, elected in 1948, has filed for re election.

In Atlanta on February 14 Coca the city elephant resisted a medical sling for her hurt knee as veterinarian Dr. Charles Rife aimed to reduce weight on the three ton animal. Reporter Katharine Barnwell of the Atlanta Constitution covered the attempt but Coca sprayed muddy water on her, and even the photographer dodged behind the elephant.
In Kankakee Illinois an angora cat sought a cozy spot in Mrs. Pearl DiPietra’s basement but tangled its tail in a washing machine motor. Fire department emergency squads responded to the scene. The cat has not been seen since.
