The case involved a $5,000 bribe to refrain from testing Shasta Oil wells in the Satan East Howard field near Midland, with the event dated about March 12, 1940. R J Kelly of Shasta Oil testified as principal witness.
Police recovered nearly three gallons of ice cream and six boxes of candy from Taylor's cafe burglary at 718 North Polk Street. Robert Post was arrested and jailed on burglary charges, while two hens and a ham remained missing.

Carl A. Beckman seeks a divorce from his 67 year old wife in San Jose California on charges she forced him to sleep with a monkey for about ten years. He says she was a trapeze artist known as The Great Delma who acquired the monkey during her career. The animal fell ill and he took it to a humane society which killed it. Mrs Beckman counters that Beckman showed no affection for her or the monkey and says the monkey slept with them only on cold nights.
At age 85, R. L. Hamlett of Tennessee regained sight after seven years of total blindness in Fort Worth. He joked with a crony about nurses and pretty young girls and said he must now feel normal, still admiring a well-turned ankle and a pretty face.

Manila reports a surprise move toward evacuating U S Army wives and children. Authorities deny an evacuation order but sources say 300 to 400 dependents plan to depart on the transports Etolin and Grant, with some not expected to return to the United States soon.
A gas leak in a cook stove caused a fire alarm at 12 10 orlock this afternoon at 1100 B Fillmore Street. Firemen reported no damage. This marks the second alarm in 24 hours after a shed fire at River Road grocery yesterday afternoon.
