Washington jail holds Johnsons' 18 year old wife under silence

Washington officials say Texas Rangers ordered the 18 year old wife of Ewald Albert Johnson to be kept incommunicado while the Panhandle murder case proceeds. Rangers report she has spoken enough. DOJ says reporters may talk to her but has no involvement in the Texas murder case.

Tucumcari Woman May Aid Slaying Case

Mrs. Sid Johnson of Tucumcari says she might identify the slayers of Tex Thornton. She described a young, well dressed couple seen near her Us Highway 66 home on June 22 as she played with her baby in the front yard.

Cap clue links suspect to Tex Thornton murder

A cap worn by Ewald A. Johnson at his Munising arrest in Michigan on the Tex Thornton case matches a cap worn by a man who drank beer with Thornton in San Jon New Mexico hours before the murder. Witnesses Terrence Popejoy and Jimmy Briggs identified nothing definite without seeing the turbanned Diana Heaney Johnson photo, while Johnson confessed to the June 22 killing after hours of questioning by FBI and state police.

Chester Man Sentenced After Siren Induced Scuffles

A 72-year-old Chester man, James Wright, provoked repeated siren rides and attacks on two vehicles, leading to a guilty verdict of disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to 90 days in Delaware County prison, transported without a siren.

Defense Round In Rader Trial Missed In Afternoon Session

The defense round in the Rader trial was missed yesterday afternoon on motion by the state. After five Mc Cartt witnesses testified, Edward Lee was identified as one of two armed robbers who held up the store on July 9. Foster testified the holdup began about 15 minutes before 7 o'clock. A gunman entered through the back door and forced Hutto to open the safe, while another armed man herded the victims into a restroom.

Amarillo area forecast calls for warmer conditions this afternoon and tonight with highs near 68 and 70 on Saturday. West Texas expected fair skies, with light rain and snow flurries in western mountains Saturday afternoon. In a separate trial note, Foster altered his testimony about Leo Earl and L R Moore regarding the Lubboock robbery. Moore pleaded guilty last week to armed robbery, eight years’ penitentiary, while the witness said he changed his mind after reviewing previous grand jury testimony.
