Doumergue Forms Cabinet as Paris Reels From Riots

Premier-designate Gaston Doumergue moved to form a new cabinet in Paris as two days of rioting left 12 dead and thousands injured. He urged a truce among parties while Socialists called for a government wresting power from factions and fascists.

Amarillo contracts loan grant for water project

The city commissions a loan and grant totaling 186000 from the Public Works Administration to improve Amarillo water distribution. The plan includes a new reservoir, a duplicate supply line, and 20000 feet of distribution pipe. Wages range from 40 cents an hour for laborers to one dollar for skilled workers. Banker's 23 Days Captivity Ends in Minnesota Return

Edward G. Bremer, president and owner of Commercial State Bank, was released after 23 days in captivity by a gang demanding $200,000. He arrived home in St. Paul reportedly exhausted but recovering, with ransom details and gang movements under investigation by authorities. Amarillo swears in new city officials during Boy Scout week

Mrs. Walter Cline Seriously Injured in Car Crash

Mrs. Walter Cline of Wichita Falls Texas was severely cut and bruised in a collision on the Marshall road eight miles west of Shreveport. Dr Cline and L Knuse escaped injury. Knuse was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Vienna Under Armed Police In New Police Drive

In Vienna troops with fixed bayonets occupied socialist centers as Austria’s government intensified actions against Nazis and Socialists. Soldiers and police seized several buildings including the Zeitung newspaper office which was heavily guarded. An AP reporter was admitted only to stay, with exits barred. Districts were cordoned off as troops patrolled the area.

CWA Students to Perform at Amarillo Assembly

Mayor Ross D. Rogers will speak at Amarillo CWA General Assembly tonight at 7 40 in the Senior High School Auditorium. The gym class performs with W H Wright presiding and a tumbling group featured. Each week a different group will perform and the public is urged to attend.

Plainview Women Injured in Raton Auto Crash

Mrs Josephine William of Plainview Texas was seriously injured and Mrs Mel Self of Plainview suffered minor injuries and shock when their automobile plunged off the highway near Raton New Mexico about 22 miles south of here early today. A search failed to locate a missing girl at Fort Lewis Washington where Eleander Darnell, 15, niece of Captain and Mrs Charles Perfect, has been missing since Sunday.

V C Nelson of Sudan dies at 57 in Lubbock hospital

The death of V C Nelson of Sudan, 57, in a Lubbock hospital shocked North Plains friends. Nelson served as Panhandle postmaster, later moved to Fort Worth end Sudan to enter real estate, was mayor, relief chief, and First National Bank president. He was a Republican candidate against Marvin Jones four years ago. Funeral services are planned in Sudan Friday between 12 and 4 PM with attendees from Amarillo.

Propose New CWA Members in Texas Legislature

In Austin on February 8 a debate arose in the Texas House over a bill to replace the Texas Relief Commission with a new body and to authorize additional state relief bonds. Governor Miriam A. Ferguson urged harmony, criticizing current commission deliberations and accusing some members of opposing her administration. The measure would allow the governor to name two members, with an amendment seeking to strike out sections establishing the new commission and preserve the existing board.

Northeast Plains Get Rain for Farmers in Panhandle

A soaking rain reached scattered north and east Panhandle sections last night, with Amarillo missing out. Falls ranged from a half inch to an inch, notably near Wellington Stratford Perryton and parts of Oklahoma. Rain aided winter wheat. Amarillo had only a light shower.
