Noted Texas Editor Gillespie Dies at 56 in Dallas
Charles Bowen Gillespie editor of the Houston Chronicle died in a Dallas sanitarium at 2 a.m. of pneumonia. He was 56 and had long served the Chronicle since 1901 rising from city editor to editor. Survived by widow and two children, two brothers, two sisters, and his Houston relatives. He also held business and military posts including Sugarland railroad vice president and Texas World’s Fair commissioner.
