Sunray High School costs and building details

The Sunray High School project saves costs through masonry walls and all metal skylights. Architect Emmett F. Rittenberry describes 18,000 square feet of one story space with five classrooms a 50 by 21 foot study hall 82 by 21 foot cafeteria and an 80 by 97 foot gymnasium heated by individual gas furnaces.

Amarillo school contracts revealed in city reports

A new Amarillo school project is outlined with a two story, semi fireproof design. Architect is Emmett F. and partners of Memphis. Cost cited is 725 dollars per square foot for Sunray school, with Fort Worth and Austin comparisons noted as context. The Sunray project spans 26 000 square feet on a two story plan.

Fritz Kuhn Escapes German Prison Camp

Fritz Kuhn, former head of the German American Bund, escaped from the Dacha internment camp in Munich. He was deported to Germany by US authorities and slipped out yesterday before noon, with details about the escape not fully disclosed.

City to consult state on Amarillo highway plans

Rex Baxter and Fist Ansley of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce convened with Mayor Lawrence Hagg and other local officials to plan a state consultation. Fred Wemple, state highway commissioner, said he would visit Amarillo February 17 for an on site inspection, with Guy Lott meeting him in Lubbock.

Baxter Named New Fair Manager for Tri State Fair

Rex B Baxter executive vice president of Amarillo Chamber of Commerce was named active manager of the Tri state Fair Association. He succeeds L B Herring who left last month to head the Mid South Fair in Memphis. Baxter will run the fair along with his chamber duties pending approval by the chamber directors. The next fall dates are set for October 4.

Former Hanson Post Adjutant Dies at Waco Veterans Hospital

J T McEnteg gart, totally disabled World War I veteran and former adjutant of the Hanson Post American Legion, died yesterday at Veterans Hospital in Waco. The body will arrive here tomorrow and funeral arrangements are pending. He resigned in 1939 due to health after serving under commanders Rose and Autry. the post grew to about 500 members during 1937-38. His wife Felecitia and daughter and granddaughter live in Las Animas Colorado. They accompanied him to the hospital and are traveling with the body. He was a Catholic and Knights of Columbus member.

Search ends for Star Tiger with no survivors found

Officials abandon the search for the British Airways Star Tiger missing on a flight from the Azores to Bermuda with 29 aboard.
