Huntsville Texas February 3 Accidental death was the verdict in the inquest for D E Long Eastham state prison farm guard slain by Tom Bozeman another guard during the capture of 16 escaped convicts. Prisoners escaped by cutting through a wall. Bozeman testified he fired after Long failed to halt and was mistaken for an escapee.
Building permits estimated at 20210 were issued in the first two days of the month for residential projects. The list includes a cottage in the Mexican district and shows activity noted by A W Smalley building inspector.

President Coolidge nominated Norman A. Dodge today to be United States attorney for the northern district of Texas. The announcement was made in Washington with the formal nomination by the Associated Press on record.
A Sapulpa Oklahoma refinery fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damage. The blaze started when a top manhead blew from a still and broke out between 2 and 3 am. Fire crews fought to stop the flames from spreading and protect remaining plant structures.

W H Holmen, Panhandle oil pioneer, told the American Business club that oil over production is a fallacy and that consumption is strong. He cited Tulsa World and noted low prices and high costs, criticizing New York influence and calling West Virginia’s law a solution.
