Henry Major Prospect in Baseball Circle From Amarillo
Amarillo’s Bob Henry a 6 foot 2 inch left handed pitcher shows major league promise after leading Southwestern Tech College to the Oklahoma Collegiate Conference title with seven wins and one loss. He also starred for Elk City in semi pro play and shined in the national tournament at Wichita. Henry, also a Southwestern Tech basketball standout, left for Portales NM to join the Sunshine tournament team after a holiday home stay. He has declined signing a bonus contract, noting interest from about 15 teams but concerns over farm-out flexibility under current rules.

Bonus clause tenterhooks affect club plans in major leagues
Two seasons of hesitation surround the bonus category as clubs seek to modify rules. The bonus clause favors players but dismays executives, who fear giving too much leverage. Bob gained local fame with the 1946 47 Sandie cage squads and later joined Amarillo Highs top teams with Jewell McDowell, Larry Wartes, Jimmy Carter, and Boone Pickens.
