Texas Imposes Restriction on Public Accountants
After Wednesday, Texas requires public accountants to hold a valid permit issued by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. The Public Accountancy Act of 1945 aims to protect the public by banning unqualified individuals from practicing. Violators face up to $500 fine or six months jail, or both. A public accountant offers auditing or reporting services for compensation. Permits are issued to CPAs and others registered under sections 10 and 14 of the act.
