In Carlsbad New Mexico a two story frame hotel burned killing four people including Mrs. John Owens of Portales and her infant Clyde two feet from a door where she was overcome by smoke. Also dying were Felix Miller near Carlsbad and J Bh Morrigan of Woodson Texas. Six others were burned or injured fleeing the flames. Chief Wood said the fire likely started in the lobby.
