Harry Lapidus a Jewish manufacturer and reform activist in the Nebraska Republican party was shot to death by an unknown assailant outside the Jewish Community Club. Police say he died in his car from shotgun wounds, the killer likely waiting after conversations inside. Lapidus led Omaha Fixture and Supply and was a national Jewish community figure.
A major attractions series is booked for Amarillo by The News Globe spanning late winter to early spring. It opens January 18 with The Apple Cart by Wilbur C Hawk, then Crazy Quilt starring Fannie Brice Ted Healey and Phil Baker on January 28. Tomball State Bank near Houston was robbed of an estimated $5,000 to $6,000. The thieves used the cashier A. H. Keefer's small coupe to flee, Keefer said. He believed a second car may have joined in the escape but could not be certain.

Washington dispatch reports Mr and Mrs Harry N Riley were sentenced to two years in prison and fined 250 dollars for cruelty to their 12 year old daughter Edith. Judge F D Letts called the case a revival of common sense of justice after the couple waived a jury trial. Edith was said to have been confined in a dark closet for four years and mistreated over years with Mrs Riley named the dominating factor in the home.
The Senate clerk sent the formal copy of the debt moratorium measure to the President for signature. The one year intergovernment suspension of war debt and reparations payments won final Senate approval with 69 in favor and about a dozen opposed after days of debate. First installments were due December 15, and Congress is now assured of ratification.
In Austin on December 23, the Court of Criminal Appeals ruled that a motor truck and trailer exceeding 45 feet in total length is not exempt from size regulations even when used to haul farm produce. The $25 fine against Cecil Reaves in Wichita County for violating the length of vehicles law was sustained after he claimed immunity as an implement of husbandry.
Trading on all commodity markets here will be suspended from the close of business Thursday until Monday extending the Christmas holiday over three days. Governors of the New York Stock Exchange will vote this afternoon on closing the exchange on Saturday. Other securities exchanges will do likewise. Banks will close only on Christmas.
A window smashing burglary at Fox Drug in Amarillo yielded a two ounce bottle of perfume valued at 200 dollars per ounce and a four ounce bottle of the same perfume worth 400 dollars in total. Police found lead pellets from the shattered display and say the thief left a clue while failing to seize the high priced item.
Hundreds of Amarillo children will attend the annual Christmas tree hosted by Hanson Post of the American Legion and its auxiliary at Municipal Auditorium. Doors open 6:30 with program starting 7, giving kids time to depart by a reasonable hour. Troop Nine and White Rose Troop will assist. performers include Amarillo College of Music Junior Band, solos, dances, and choral numbers.
