Matinee Boosts Christmas Fund for Amarillo Needy
The Basketeers and the Salvation Army each received about 400 cans from a charity matinee at the Paramount Theater. Admission was one can of food, raising cash totaling $556.99 with about $225 still needed. Amarillo Junior Chamber of Commerce members are urged to gather at 8 pm at Basketeers headquarters to help prepare baskets.

Defense Band Sets Date for Rehearsal
The Amarillo National Defense band organized by Director Robert Louis Barron at the mayor’s request will hold its first rehearsal two weeks from tonight. The band aims to be one of the largest ever formed, but holiday rush delays start until the new year. Members signed up for service are asked to be ready to practice the night of Jan. 5.
