Family heroic blaze leaves two badly burned in rescue

Donna Fay Easley, 4, remains critical while father Leon Easley, seriously burned, fought flames to rescue seven children. Mrs Easley escaped uninjured as she aided in evacuation from the flaming house after starting a coal range fire with gasoline.

Bomb Plot Ties Reuthers to UAW Threat

Dynamiters tried to blow up the CIO United Auto Workers headquarters in Detroit last night. A 39-stick dynamite bundle wrapped in Christmas paper was found at an outside stairway near the GM research lab, with two fuses burned close to the explosives. The building was empty except for two night workers, but the nearby GM complex faced possible danger. Police linked the act to past shootings of Walter and Victor Reuther and vowed a full investigation, noting the case may involve a conspiracy against the Reuthers and the union.

City Engineer predicts record 1926 building total likely

Stan ton M Field, city engineer, says the 1926 building record will be topped this year. December permits averaged 45 000 daily with 38 500 and 55 500 permits bringing the 1949 total to within 73 660 of the 1926 figure of 16 476 529. A 38 500 permit was issued to the Texas Highway Department for a two story basement addition at 1600 West Fifth. West Lawn Homes received a block of nine permits for homes on Alabama and North Buchanan streets totaling multiple 6 000s. December building revenue topped 1 000 000, reaching 1 023 442 85.

Killed in wreck near Borger claims Virgil Simpkins Jr

Borger notices report the death of 21 year old Virgil David Simpkins Jr in a late night crash near the Canadian River bridge. The Navy veteran and Borger resident left a wife Clara Jo Simpkins and his family in Pawhuska Oklahoma. The body will be sent to Pawhuska by Minton Funeral Home.

Two Infants Die in Lubbock Fire Tragedy

Fire following a kerosene stove explosion killed two infants in a north Lubbock home. Jennifer Delois Carmen, 16 months old, was found burned beyond recognition in the ruins. her brother Billy, 4 months old, died later in a hospital.
