Plane Crash Kills Lt Samuelson in Midair Train Derailment Follows
Lt. Carl E. Samuelson, 24, of Faith South Dakota pilot of a B 26 Marauder was killed when the plane crashed north of English Field. Lt. Edward E. Dixson co pilot was lightly burned and others were injured in the train derailment caused by the wreckage. The Santa Fe freight train struck the debris after the plane hit the track zone, derailing the engine tender nine boxcars and two tankers. Fire crews from Amarillo Army Air Field Panhandle and Santa Fe battled flames as investigators prepared to determine cause. Traffic on Highway 60 was detoured and a relief crew attended the injured brakeman at the station hospital.

Soldier Impersonates Chaplain for Four Fake Weddings
Alliance Nebraska December report says four Alliance girls were married to paratroopers by a soldier posing as an Army chaplain. British Beaten by ELAS At Averoff Bastion Athens
ELAS launched a strong attack on the Averoff and forced British to abandon the bastion. Quisling ex-Premier Jean Rallis was being sought. The assault on the prison followed, with a counterthrust to relieve 115 policemen 149 wardens and other British prisoners. The garrison and about 130 Greeks were reportedly withdrawn. Death of H. K. Stanfield Former Amarillo Attorney
H. K. Stanfield a 45 year old former Amarillo attorney and ex state representative died of a heart attack at 6 40 this morning at his Plaza Hotel home in San Antonio following a three day sinus siege. Burial services will be held in Knoxville where his birthplace. Stanfield moved from Amarillo to San Antonio in 1936 and served one term as county attorney here.

Allied air forces launched a first of its kind mission dropping 1,000 tons of explosives on German supply lines behind counterattacking Nazi troops.
