An observer notes warm moist air from the Gulf moving over colder Panhandle air and bringing light rainfall tomorrow. Temperatures near Amarillo rise to 62 today and 67 tomorrow with cooler nights. Rainfall expected across eastern Panhandle Oklahoma Kansas and central Texas improves conditions in some areas.

Dynamite Blasts Suspected Behind Amarillo Tremor Reports

Residents and officials traced a 4:30 PM blast near the city to dynamite explosions at caliche pits northwest of Amarillo. Klock Construction and county crews reportedly set off 100 to 150 pounds of dynamite at nearby quarries, prompting calls of a possible non quake cause. Witnesses described a dull, loud boom with several people hearing audible reports from Ellwood Park to Tyler Street.

Shamrock Oil Cuts Panhandle Crude Price After Increases

The Shamrock Oil and Gas Corp reduced its posted price for Panhandle crude back to the pre Sept 28 1948 level following similar cuts by Phillips Petroleum. J H Dunn president said the earlier increase was needed to cover higher costs and to defend national interests but cannot be sustained by independent firms. Phillips and Sinclair also trimmed prices amid a balancing supply demand picture driven by higher imports. The move affects gross margins and daily losses cited by industry observers.

Railroads urged to move non operating workers to 40 hour week

A Presidential board advised railroads to give non operating clerks and mechanical workers a 7 cent an hour raise immediately and shift to a 40 hour week starting September 1949 with no take home pay loss. The plan would cost about 340 million dollars in 1949, including 150 million for the 40 hour week and 20 percent base-rate adjustment. Union leaders viewed the proposal as a bargaining base but lamented the delayed 40 hour week and only a 7 cent raise.

Bus Talks Resume in Amarillo Contract Standoff

Negotiations resumed this afternoon between Amarillo Bus Company drivers and officials to settle the wage and vacation dispute. The union and company tentatively agreed to a 10 cent per hour raise, while the vacation schedule remains the major sticking point.

A 32 year old Naples native married Pete Campos a US Army sergeant yesterday after meeting in service. Three hours later Campos filed for divorce as the wife’s attorney said they planned to marry in Naples but he was sent away. Miss D Auria later lodged assault and non support charges which were dropped before the divorce petition.

Liquor Board Probe Sought By Amarillo Representative

State Rep. J. Blake Timmons of Amarillo said he will introduce a resolution when the Legislature opens January 11 calling for a complete investigation of the Texas Liquor Control Board. Carpenters Strike at Tri-State Fair Lumber Job

Carpenters walk off at Livestock Exhibition Building amid union action. Foreman James C Ward suspended and fined 100 dollars by the union for working on the county project. Four carpenters and two laborers abandoned the job with some expected to return Monday. County officials planned informal action and a larger crew was sought as the project continued.
